History Behind the Name
I'm Steve Hansen and I grew up on a 400 acre farm called "Gray Haven" in northwestern Ohio, in a small town called Bellevue (near Cedar Point, a popular amusement park.) My family farmed 1000 acres of land each year; although, we owned only 400 of those acres. We learned to work and work hard!
When the Hansen family first came to Gray Haven, it didn't have a name. My great grandmother wanted to name the farm "Pleasant View." My great aunt Nora said there was nothing pleasant about the view as northern Ohio sees a lot of gray in the wintertime (and in the spring and fall) with the lake effect off of Lake Erie. Nora insisted the farm should be called "Gray Haven." It was gray but it was also a haven.
Gray Haven it was!
I grew up only knowing the farm as "Gray Haven" and it was a place that I loved. The farm is no longer part of my family heritage but still lingers and is and always will be a part of me. Our parent company is named "Gray Haven, Inc." and we are currently dba "Hansen Renovations."
About Us
Construction Experience
In 2003, I began construction work on an addition to my 100 year old house in Illinois. This home improvement project started out as a new kitchen and master bedroom and bathroom, but turned into a 4,000 square foot addition with a dining room, living room, several bedrooms, additional bathroom, basketball court in the attic, wrap around porch, octagon towers at the corners, other decks and balconies, and a cupala with deck on top. The only aspect of this house that I did not do myself was installed the carpet.
Previous Work
I spent the past 26 years working in the hydraulic industry; however, I began to grow tired of traveling so much and being away from my family. I really enjoyed working on my house those many years ago and decided to take my career a new direction and get my general contractor's license.
Who Are We Today?
Hansen Renovations is a family-owned company. We are hard working and know that communication between us and our client is very important. We have considerable experience and expertise in many areas and are able to do most things ourselves, which means we do not need to wait for subcontractors to come in and do specific work for us, in most cases. We can come and get the job done!
